It centres on the recreation of the traditional hunting sandal of the San peoples of southern Africa. Drawing upon her own ancestral knowledge and study of shoemaking, Catherine Willems leads a unique project combining oral literature, physical anthropology, and design into a reflective and beautiful work that is also a celebration of San culture, environmental knowledge, and ingenuity.
