Mansilla Fernando
It was a bit late when we finally got to know Fernando Mansilla. This discovery came through his spoken word performances blending music, poetry and drama. This small man with his signature black hat grew to enormous heights on stage. We were blown away by his distinct, deep voice and his acerbic wordplay. It was a few years later when we had the good fortune of meeting Fernando and found out how kind, gentle and humble the man was behind the artist. It was always a pleasure to chat with him over an ice cold beer. Mansilla was born in Barcelona, but settled down in Seville lured by the lifestyle, the climate and the good hash down south. He made a living as a street musician and with his diverse theatrical productions that brought him more and more recognition as an underground artist. His poetry was compiled in Poemas para la no posteridad, published by Cangrejo Pistolero. His recordings include Literatura de baile, Dejad que los colgados se acerquen a mí, and Lucy. His stage productions were performed regularly during the 1990s, including Libertino, nominated for the prestigious Max awards. His first novel, Canijo, was originally published by El Rancho Editorial, which we at Barrett have had the pleasure of releasing for all of Spain as well as publishing his other works in Spanish: Relatos faunescos, Matar cabrones, and Mansilla Street View. Mansilla passed away while resting on his beloved ¨damned¨ sofa. You have probably also got to know Fernando Mansilla a bitlate, but it is never too late. Today is a good day.

Mansilla Fernando
