It is 1170 when Hildegard, now elderly, makes her last journey to recount what she has seen and heard. It is a time when the written word takes shape, resonating in the great cathedrals, and it is in this prophetic time that the saint entrusts her entire work to the painted word. A journey in images that narrates the path along the roads until the return to the heart of God, in the great sphere within three spheres of creation. Hildegard allows the living source of God's wisdom to flow into the construction of images where numbers, shapes, colours, sounds and the movement of the stars sing the wonder of the divine order, imitating its creative action, which first draws an image with a compass and only then paints it with colours. The richly illustrated volume accompanies the original reproductions of the images from the two Hildegardian codices with new, never-before-seen images hidden within the miniatures. The work is divided into three parts: the first recounts the journey through the cosmos, from the sphere of creation to the sphere of the soul; the second describes the process of writing and composing the hidden images; and the third explains the wisdom code used to construct the work and the images thanks to the arts of the quadrivium, arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy.
