Honeymoon Updates Vol. 1
Honeymoon Updates Vol. 1
Terranova embarks in an epic, Fitzcarraldo-esque adventure with legendary artist Miralda, publishing the first in an ongoing series of five consecutive volumes dedicated to unearth, explore, organize and print the vast majority of his archives related to one of his more memorable bodies of work: The Honeymoon Project.
Between 1986 and 1992 Miralda devoted most of his time and energy (and he has A LOT of energy) to the Honeymoon Project, a series of actions, events and exhibitions around the symbolic wedding of two monuments: the Statue of Liberty in New York City and Columbus sculpture-on-a-pillar in Barcelona.
Within the broad frame of both the 100th anniversary of the monuments and the quincentenary of Columbus' first trip to the Americas, the Honeymoon Project travelled all around the world, from Japan to Las Vegas, with stops in Birmingham, Brussels or Miami, producing dozens of performances and installations about love and commitment, but also about cultural heritage, rituals, ceremonies, and food, with a special attention on the controversial aspects of colonialism and gender politics.
This first volume the Honeymoon Updates gathers a wide selection of the hundreds of love letters received after Miralda and Montse Guillen's open call to submit such love letters from the public on both sides of the Atlantic. It includes a foreword by Victoria Cirlot, three new love letters written today by Gabriel Ventura, Pol Guasch and Karina Moret, a series of written portraits by Ramón de España about the members of the jury who selected the best love letter, and comprehensive, thorough essay by Sandra March and FoodCultura's team putting the letters and the work in perspective seen from today's world.
The book has been edited and designed by Bendita Gloria, the independent design office that already worked with Miralda in the celebrated 2019 book about his New York restaurant El Internacional.
