Ursula K. Le Guin va néixer a Berkeley, Califòrnia, l'any 1929. Durant la seva llarga trajectòria com a escriptora, ha cultivat diversos gèneres com la poesia, la narrativa, els contes infantils o la crítica, però el seu èxit es deu als nombrosos llibres de ciència-ficció i fantasia, guardonats amb diferents premis literaris. Destaquen les obres La mà esquerra de la foscor (2019, Raig Verd) guanyadora dels prestigiosos premis Nebula (1969) i Hugo (1970); Els desposseïts (2018, Raig Verd) amb la qual va aconseguir un altre cop els Nebula (1974) i Hugo (1975), i els premis Locus (1975), Gigamesh (1984) i Prometheus (1993); i El nom del món és bosc (2021, Raig Verd), guanyadora del premi Hugo (1973) i finalista del National Book Award (1976). Le Guin també va escriure la sèrie fantàstica Terramar, un conjunt de cinc novel-les publicades en un període de més de trenta anys. Amb aquest cicle novel-lístic va ser guardonada amb el Boston Globe-Hom Book Award (1969), el National Book Award (1973), i nombrosos premis com l'Hugo, el Jupiter Nebula i el Locus, entre d'altres.

Late in the Day, Ursula K. Le Guin's new collection of poems (2010 2014) seeks meaning in an ever-connected world. In part evocative of Neruda's Odes to Common Things and Mary Oliver's poetic guides to the natural world, Le Guin's latest give voice to objects that may not speak a human language but communicate with us nevertheless through and about the seasonal rhythms of the earth, the minute and the vast, the ordinary and the mythological. As Le Guin herself states, science explicates, poetry implicates. Accordingly, this immersive, tender collection implicates us (in the best sense) in a subjectivity of everyday objects and occurrences. Deceptively simple in form, the poems stand as an invitation both to dive deep and to step outside of ourselves and our common narratives. The poems are bookended with two short essays, Deep in Admiration and Some Thoughts on Form, Free Form, Free Verse.
