Lorde, Audre
Escritora afroamericana, feminista, lesbiana y activista por los derechos civiles. Después de graduarse en Literatura y Filosofía en el Colegio Hunter (1951) asistió a la Universidad Hunter entre 1954-1959. Su obra más conocida es La hermana, la extranjera. Tras pasar por la experiencia del cáncer de mama y reflexionar sobre las discriminaciones sufridas por las mujeres publicó en 1981 Los diarios del cáncer. Fue cofundadora de The Kitchen Table-Women of Color Press y codirectora del periódico lésbico Chrysalis. En 1961 recibió su Master en bibliotecología de la Universidad de Columbia. Trabajó durante varios años como bibliotecaria. Se casó con Edward Rollins y tuvo dos hijas. Se divorciaron en 1970. Recibió un subsidio de NEA en 1968 y fue contratada como poeta residente por el Tougaloo College donde conoció a quien fue su pareja durante diecinueve años, Frances Louise Clayton. En 1968 publicó su primer libro de poesía, The First Cities. En 1978 comenzó a trabajar como profesora de inglés. Murió el 17 de noviembre de 1992 en Sain Croix.
