En la Nova York dels anys 70, una convergència irrepetible de música original, influent i perdurable va sorgir simultaniament dels carrers d'una ciutat a punt de col·lapsar. De Manhattan al Bronx i al barri d'East Harlem, de les discotecas gays als lofts de jazz, Nova York va encendre l'expressió artística i la rebel·lió de joves marginats que arribaven a la majoria d'edat i es reunien per a fer punk, disco, salsa i jazz en un moment de llibertat creativa que no s'ha tornat a repetir en un sol lloc des d'aleshores.
Els participants d'aquest club rebran un playlist abans de cada sessió que servirà com a banda sonora d'aquella setmana. Llegirem breus fragments de llibres. I farem una mica de soroll, parlant de cançons, artistes i canvi social.
*Tant les persones que parlin anglès amb fluidesa com qualsevol que tingui ganes de llegir, conversar en anglès a qualsevol nivell, o simplement escoltar, són benvingudes a aquest club.

Neoyorquina nativa, Judy Cantor-Navas és periodista musical, productora i autora. La seva feina explora la cultura i la història social a través de la música. Condueix el podcast "Punk in Translation" i va ser Consultora Musical per a la pel·lícula de Disney guanyadora de l'Òscar Encanto. Va rebre una nominació al GRAMMY per als seus textos per al recopilatori The Complete Cuban Jam Sessions. Judy va ser l'editora fundadora de Billboard en castellà, i col·laboradora de Billboard durant més d'una dècada. Escriu habitualment a GladysPalmera.com i a la revista No Depression. Ha estat curadora de música llatina per a MTV i Google, i va ser crítica de rock del Buenos Aires Herald i redactora del Miami Herald i Miami New Times. Ha estat guardonada amb un primer premi dels Premis Nacionals de Periodisme Musical i una subvenció de la Fundació Cultural Latin Grammy. Actualment viu a Barcelona.

An English-language Book Club hosted by Judy Cantor-Navas.
In New York in the 1970s, an unrepeatable convergence of original, influential and enduring music surged simultaneously from the streets of a city on the verge of collapse.
From lower Manhattan to the Bronx to the East Harlem barrio, gay discos to jazz lofts, New York ignited the artistic expression and rebellion of disenfranchised kids coming of age and coming together to make punk, disco, salsa, hip hop and jazz in a moment of creative freedom not found in one place since.
This book club will be a master class on New York music and the social history of the city.
Participants in this club will receive a playlist before each session that will serve as that week’s soundtrack. We´ll read short excerpts from the books. And we´ll make some noise of our own, talking about songs, artists, and social change.
*Both fluent English speakers and anyone with a desire to do some reading, conversing in English on any level, or just listening, are welcome to this club.

Native New Yorker Judy Cantor-Navas is a music journalist, producer and author whose work explores cultural and social history through music. She was nominated for a Grammy for her liner notes for The Complete Cuban Jam Sessions (Craft Recordings). She was the story producer and lead script writer of the multiple award-winning Audible podcast Punk in Translation, Cultural Music Consultant for Disney Animation’s Encanto, and translator of the book Cha-Cha-Cha, a Dance and an Era. She wrote the liner notes for the 45th Anniversary edition of salsa great Hector Lavoe’s classic Comedia, to be released in fall 2023. Judy has worked for Billboard, MTV and the Miami New Times and was a rock critic for The Buenos Aires Herald. Awards for her work include a Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation grant and a National Music Journalism Awards first prize. Judy lives in Barcelona.
